Fifty years ago this past August I visited upstate NY for the first time. I spent three days on Yasgur's farm listening to some great and some merely ok music. Today I'll play Some songs by the better artists that I saw at Woodstock.

October is breast Cancer Awareness mont, so I'll play songs by or associated with Dusty Springfield, whom we lost to breast cancer,. I'll also play music by Laura Nyro, who was born in October and whom we lost to ovarian cancer. I'll close with a tune by Joni Mitchell that serves as a preview of next week's show.

The first of at least two bluegrass shows-we'll start with the father of bluegrass (Bill Monroe), follow him up with some early pioneers (Flatt and Scruggs and the Stanley Brothers), and move on into the early seventies, And while he's not strictly bluegrass, I'll play some Doc Watson. Finally I'll pay tribute to the Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter.
